It is very sad that now a days we find that Lingayats are trying to form and propapate the subsects amongst lingayats as noted above.But Basavanna never accepts the fact that
there can be any subsects.As per Basavanna and other sharanas one who wear lIshtalinga are all equal and there can be no differenctiation or discrimiination based on the profession,gender or any other form.
Recent trends that Lingayat has been subdivided into many subcastes can be attributed to many facts
1.Political
2.Social
3.Economic factors

Constittuion has awared reservations based on the caste system.Many of the Lingayats want to avail the benefits of reservations for there jobs and childerns education which is against the teachings of the Basvanna.Many politicians Lingayat as well as others want to project the subsects for their political benefits.The Upper caste people at the Bureaucracy also want the caste system to spread and perpectuate so that they will alwyas have psychological feeling that they are
in the upper strata of the society.
When one wears a Ishtalinga he has to forego all caste system.Teachings of Kayaka
,dasoha have never been explained to followers of the Lingayat religion.The concepts of Lingayat have not been explained by the elders or priest class to the followers.
The prienst class themselves not following the dcotrines of Basava.They have been practising Veidic religion which ialways perpectuates the four fold divisions of the society.

Hi,

I am a non-lingayath member of this forum, but I have registered because I want to know more about lingayathism. I guess, this site is pretty new, as I cannot see any postings so far. If anyone learned in Lingayath philosophy happens to read this, please tell me,

1) what is the significance of OM in Lingayath philosophy? If Lingayathism is non-Hindu in nature, why is OM syllable which I guess is a Hindu symbol being used?

2) What is the relationship of Ishtalinga and Shiva? Is the God in Lingayathism the same as the Shiva in Hindu mythology? If not who is He?
