A scholar in Basava Philosophy, Poojya Sri Allamaprabhu Swamiji is an accomplished practitioner and researcher of Basava Yoga, the traditions taught by 12th century Sharanas. He is dedicated to the cause of researching and propagating the percepts and practices depicted in Vachanas towards the betterment of individuals and society.
Poojya Swamiji is well versed in various systems of Indian philosophy and mystic traditions. Also an accomplished yogi, he is an expert in different forms of yoga. Known for his simple lifestyle and calm personality, he has embodied the percept of samate (mental equanimity), a key concept of Sharanas that ensues serenity into life.
With a degree in science, Poojya Swamiji was pursuing a career in business prior to being drawn by Basava philosophy. Coming from a traditional family in Shimoga, Karnataka, he was not interested in the blind religious practices. In his youth, he chanced upon an article on the concept of God as described in Vachanas. The thought provoking percepts in the Vachanas kindled his interest and prompted him to spend hours in libraries and in the company of mystics learning about various practices and systems. Poojya Swamiji decided to dedicate his life to pursue the mystic path of Sharanas and joined Basava Dhrama Peeta in 1994 and took his sanyasa in 1997. He was appointed as the successor to head the Peeta in 2000 and he ascended the Shunya Peeta in Basava Kalyana in 2002.
Poojya Swamiji's drive towards spiritual practices and burning desire to plunge into practical implementation of the lifestyle described in Vachanas prompted him to rethink his role as a head of a large establishment. Preferring to pursue a life of spiritual practice and propagation of the messages of Vachanas, Poojya Swamiji relinquished his prestigious position in 2006. Since then, he has undertaken extensive research on Vachanas and the sadhana path revealed in them. In Sharana tradition, he has continued to perform his kayaka of delivering pravachanas and conducting training classes.
Poojya Swamiji has authored books on Vachanas and Sharanas. He is the editor of Basava Kirana monthly newsmagazine dedicated to propagating the messages of Sharanas. Poojya Swamiji is a great orator and has extensively lectured across Karnataka spreading the invaluable message of Vachanas. His elucidating lectures target all classes of the society and have won the acclaim of people from various backgrounds. Poojya Swamiji's discourses are known to touch all, scholars and masses alike.
